Gen. Nivelle at Noyon, between c1915 and 1918. French artillery officer Robert Georges Nivelle (1856-1924) who served in the Boxer Rebellion and World War I. He succeeded Philippe Pe?tain as commander of the French Second Army in the Battle of Verdun in May 1916.
