Opening of the International Exhibition, [South Kensington, London]: the orchestra, 1862. The View which we give of the "Orchestra," which was situated under the eastern dome, will probably bear out an opinion which was generally expressed that, as seen from the nave, filled with apparently a countless number of handsomely-dressed ladies (the vocalists), formed a charming picture, to which the gentlemen singers and musicians, in their darker costumes, formed an appropriate frame. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
