Light micrograph of a leiomyoma. A leiomyoma is a benign growth of smooth muscle cells. Most commonly, they are seen in the uterus (where they are often called fibroids). The smooth muscle cells are spindled (elongated in shape) and form fascicles or bundles of cells. Pink hyalinized material is also seen intermixed with the leiomyoma cells in this image. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm.
