A Grizzly-Bear Brave; Piegan. At least two of the Piegan War Societies (the Braves and All Brave Dogs) included two men known as the Grizzly-Bear Brave. During the festivities; it was their responsibility to provide meat to their companions; whatever they buy it. Their behaviour and the expression of their faces justified their names and; in the course of their official duties; they were truly feared by others. Photo taken from volume 6 of the encyclopedia published by Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952) on the Indians of North America; with a foreword by Theodore Roosevelt. Between 1907 and 1930; 20 volumes were published. ©Gusman/Leemage
