Fibrous histiocytoma on the scalp of a 68 year old male patient. Fibrous histiocytoma, also called dermatofibroma, is a benign (non cancerous) tumour that usually affects soft tissues. It usually presents as a solitary firm papule or nodule on the skin that is sometimes tender or itchy. The lesions are composed of proliferating fibroblasts and they rarely cause serious problems. If it is causing concern, the lesion can be removed with surgery.
