Illustration of a sleeping Holmesina sp. pampathere, an extinct prehistoric armadillo-like animal. It was a herbivore that grew up to two metres in length and weighed up to 230 kilograms. It is pictured in what is now Brazil, around 10,000 years ago during the Late Pleistocene. A yellow-headed caracara (Milvago chimachima) is picking parasites from between its osteoderms (shell plates).
