The spectacle moth (Abrostola tripartita) is a member of the Noctuidae family and gets its english vernacular name from the raised tufts of scales on its thorax which appear as a pair of spectacles . The flight period is usually May to September and occurs across much of the Palearctic ecozone. The larvae feed mainly on species of Urticaria (Nettles). Photographed in Somerset, UK, in May.
