David Randolph Scott (born 1932), Apollo 15 Commander, with a model of the lunar rover used during the mission. The Apollo 15 mission to the Moon took place from 26 July to 7 August 1971. NASA astronauts David Scott (commander) and James Irwin (Lunar Module pilot) descended to the lunar surface, with Alfred Worden in lunar orbit in the Command Module. Scott also flew on the Gemini 8 and Apollo 9 missions. He retired from NASA in 1977.
