Composite image of the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy also known as NGC 1365. This galaxy is located 56 million light years away in the constellation Fornax. GC 1365 is a doubled-barred spiral galaxy, there is a larger bar stretching across the centre of the galaxy and a smaller bar that comprises the core. The central bar of NGC 1365 influences star formation throughout the entire galaxy and conceals a supermassive black hole hidden behind a mass of newly formed stars. This image is a composite of data from the Hubble Space Telescope, the Blanco 4-metre telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile and the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona, USA.
