The Babes (or Children) in the Wood. Orphaned Babes taken off to be murdered by ruffians hired by wicked uncle. One ruffian repents and kills other; then abandons Babes who die in the wood and are covered with leaves by robins. Illustration by Randolph Caldecott (1846-86) for the ballad of c1600.
