Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Cronobacter sakazakii (formerly Enterobacter sakazakii) bacteria. This Gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium is able to tolerate dry environments and has been found in powdered foods, including infant formula. It poses little danger to healthy individuals, but can cause sepsis and meningitis in babies, which can be fatal. Magnification: x9,000 when printed at 15cm wide.
