Flying On Top Of The World Out Cameraman Goes Over The North Pole -- The most north-westerly tip of Iceland recedes, and from now on it means it is the Polar Region. Stanley Devon, winner of the Encyclopedia Britannic award for the best photographer of the year, has just returned to London after flying thousands of miles to and from Alaska via the icy wastelands of the North Pole. He has brought back these magnificent pictures taken from one of the Royal Air Force Lincoln Bombers on their historic flight to give airmen from Britain, Canada and New Zeeland experience of arctic weather conditions in a region where a compass is useless. July 27, 1951. (Photo by Paul Popper).
