Riots in Rome Over Atlantic Pact -- An "Anti-Pact" demonstrator, holding his clubbed head, is taken away by riot squad police, during the demonstration, March 12. The announcement to the Italian Chamber of Deputies of that country's participation in the projected Atlantic past gave rise, March 12, to the worst riots that Rome has known singe the ***** of last year. About 1,000 students demonstrating in the Piazza Colonna, close to Parliament House, refused to disperse on police orders. Cars of Police, armed with tommy-guns, charged the mob, and about a dozen people were injured. March 13, 1949. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).
