Big Crowd at Wandsworth as Haigh is Executed -- The big crowd pressing forward to read the notices of Haigh's death posted at the doors of Wandsworth Prison after the execution had been carried out this morning. A crowd of about 500 people, many of them women, was gathered outside Wandsworth Prison. London this morning (Wednesday) as John George Haigh, 39, was executed. Haigh had been found guilty at Sussex Assizes, Lewes, of the murder of Mrs. Olivia Durand-Deacon, 69-year-old Kensington widow, whose body was destroyed in an acid bath. August 10, 1949.
