Col. Tinling pictured to-day with one of his tennis dresses.... 'Gussy's' Dress Man Has New Plans Designs May 'Make The Sparks Fly' - Colonel "Teddy" Tinling 6ft. creator of the controversial lace panties worn by "Gorgeous Gussy" Moran at Wimbledon last year said to-day his decision to break with the All-England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon was part of a "life begins at 40 idea." At the Kensington premises where he runs a dress designing business, Colonel Tinling, who has been associated with Wimbledon for 20 years, said he made the decision on the eve of his 40th birthday. "I have always been a crusader for femininity and individuality on the tennis court and the shadow of constant criticism was becoming too much," he said. "But even lace panties will be-come accepted as normal in a few years' time." February 22, 1950. (Photo by Daily Mail Contact Picture).
