"One Year After" At Lynmouth -- A general view of reconstruction work in progress at Lynmouth, where a great post-flood plan is now in operation. One year after the disastrous floods at Lynmouth (Devon) during which 32 people lost their lives, cranes and concrete mixers, instead of concert parties are the main attraction at this still picturesque resort. A huge reconstruction plan, which will cost ?330,000, for the repair of the tremendous damage caused by the floods is now in operation. The plan is the joint work of Lynton Urban Council and Devon County Council and will be completed within two years, a wonderful achievement in view of the devastation which was caused. The new sea defences, for which Lynton Council is solely responsible will be completed by the end of October, to guard against further tragedy. August 27, 1953. (Photo by Fox Photos).
