Rustyback fern (Asplenium ceterach) during drought. The desiccated fronds of the rustyback fern have the ability to recover from prolonged periods of drought and unlike most ferns need little humidity. Phenolic compounds decrease and enzymes occur in higher concentrations in drought conditions, helping the plant to avoid the adverse effects of desiccation.
