Eumycetoma is a fungal infection of the subcutaneous tissue (deepest layer of skin). The infection leads to the formation of a granuloma, a cluster of white blood cells at the site of an infection that occurs as a result of the body's immune response. In later stages destruction of deeper tissues may occur, causing deformity and loss of function. Treatments include long-term antifungal medication.
