Canary Island pine on basalt flows and sea of clouds on the island of Tenerife. The Canary pine (Pinus canariensis) is a magnificent species endemic to the archipelago, very resistant to fire and colonising bare volcanic soils, such as here on the basalt flows of Teide - The north-east trade winds regularly cause a dense sea of clouds to form on the slopes of Teide, a strato volcano on the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands.
