Alchemist at work. 19th century illustration of a 17th century artwork published under the title 'The Alchymist'. The alchemist is using a pair of bellows to stoke a fire on which a potion or chemical preparation is being heated. This mezzotint by Henry Dawe (1834), is after an etching by Irish engraver William Baillie (1723-1792), which was after a painting by Flemish artist David Teniers II (1610-1690).
