City of Rheinsberg; local district Zechlinerh黷te; Alfred Wegener Museum: remakes of obejcts (including an oven and an ice scales) from Station Eismitte on Greenland inland ice where Alfred Wegener died and balloon basket; representing the balloon flight world record of the Wegener brothers; in 1906; Alfred Wegener (1880 - 1930) was a German polar researcher; geophysicist and meteorologist; who died in Greenland during a famous polar expedition; on the inland ice. In 1912; he discovered the continental drift (German: Kontinentalverschiebung). He and his brother Kurt Wegener (1878 - 1964) are presented in the Alfred Wegener Museum. The two Wegener brothers set a new record for a continuous balloon flight; remaining aloft 52.5 hours from 5 - 7 April 1906.
