Municipality Joachimsthal (Schorfheide): portrait of poet Friedrich Brunold (1811 - 1894) at Old School (Georg B點hner-Schule); built 1816; working until 1959; restored 2002; The Old School (German: Alte Schule) of Joachimsthal was built; in 1816; in style of truss or timbering. Architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel signed the building plans. The earlier school had been destroyed by the city fire; of 1814. In 1950; the school was re-named Georg-B點hner-Schule and closed; in 1959; when a new school building was opened; in Joachimsthal. In this school; local poet and teacher Friedrich Brunold; aka August Ferdinand Meyer (1811 - 1894) worked. He; famous German writer Georg B點hner (1813 - 1837) and Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781 - 1841) are honored today with portraits on the facade. The school is; since mid of 1990s; pirvately owned by local citizen Bernd H黚ner; who restored everything.
