The huge clinic complex went into possession of the Schutzstaffel (Waffen-SS) and became a favorite hospital for prominent Nazis Heinrich Himmler and Rudolf He? Also Hitler visited the complex which was the first sports sanatorium in the Third Reich. From 1942 onwards; it became a war hospital. As well; experiments on human beings took place. Gebhardt was sentenced to death during the Subsequent Nuremberg trials. Soviet Army used the sanatorium 1945 - 1993. In 2009; a private investor took over. Until 2021; huge parts of the sanatorium have been transformed into a residential area.
