1538; a first major architectural achievement for the castle was realized; in Renaissance style. After destructions in Thirty Years`War (1618 - 1648); the castle was rebuilt and extended with two wings; from 1740 to 1750. Architect Friedrich August St黮er re-designed the castle; 1838 - 1842; in Neo-Gothic style. Architect Carl Doflein rebuilt the castle; 1881 - 1884 in styles of Historism and Neo-Renaissance. From 1955 to 1990; the castle was used as a holiday retreat of the Nationale Volksarmee (National People`s Army) of GDR (German Democratic Republic). After renovations 1998 to 2005; the castle is used as a hotel. The noble von Arnims became landlords and bailiffs (German: Landv鰃te) of the Uckermark area; in 1427. Their ownership extended to 13;900 ha of grounds. Famous members of the family were poet Achim von Arnim (1781 - 1831); author Bettina von Arnim (born Brentano; 1785 - 1859); and several high ranked military commanders; diplomats and politicians. Hans Georg von Arnim-Boitzenburg (1583 - 1641) was General Field marshall; during Thirty Years`War. Georg Abraham von Arnim-Boitzenburg (1651 - 1734) was General Field Marshall in the Prussian Army.
