City of Trani; Trani Cathedral (Italian: Cattedrale di San Nicola Pellegrino): side view of 59 m high bell tower (campanile); mainly built 1230 - 1239; finished in 14th century; Trani Cathedral was built 1099 onwards in Apulian Romanesque architecture and consecrated 1143. But main construction works happened as well during rule of bishop Bertrando II; starting between 1159 and 1186 and ending around 1220. The 59 m high bell tower was mainly built 1230 - 1239; but finished; only in 14th century. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim (Italian: San Nicola Pellegrino); who was born 1075 in Steiri (Greece) and died in Trani; on 2nd of June; 1094. In 1098; he was canonized.
