City of Barletta: detail of Colossus of Barletta in front of Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro (Church of the Holy Sepulcre); the 5;11 m high bronze statue was most probably made in 5th or 6th century AD and represents a Roman Emperor. Local traditions wants; that it shows Emperor Heraclius (reign 610 - 641 AD). Other sources favorite Theodosius II (reign 402 - 450 AD); Honorius (reign 393 - 423 AD); Valentinian I (r. 364 - 375 AD); Marcian (r. 457 - 474 AD); Justinian I (r. 527 - 565 AD) or probably Leo I (r. 457 - 474 AD). The statue was repaired 1491; arms and legs were added.
