John Glover specialised in pictures of dramatic landscapes, generally bathed in a glow of golden light. His work was also influenced by the Sublime landscape style, in which artists responded to the awe-inspiring qualities of rocky landscape and hillside peaks. In this watercolour, Glover chose his viewpoint to create a traditionally composed and balanced picture, with the meandering stream tracing a zig-zag movement into the distance. The bluish colouring of the hills and inked details are typical of John Glover\'s technique. He emigrated to Tasmania in 1830.); Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.
