Cerivastatin drug, molecular model. This is a statin drug, used to treat the high cholesterol levels that cause heart and vascular disease. It was withdrawn by the manufacturer in 2001 due to a high occurrence of fatal rhabdomyolysis, the rapid breakdown (lysis) of skeletal muscle. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (black), hydrogen (white), oxygen (red), nitrogen (blue) and fluorine (green).
