Light micrograph of a stromal nodule in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In BPH, the prostate becomes enlarged due to the formation of many nodules. This can cause symptoms such as frequent or difficult urination. Microscopically, some of the nodules of BPH are made up of stromal cells (thin blue and elongated) admixed with small blood vessels (darker pink-purple). BPH can be treated with surgery by removing some of the excess tissue of the nodules. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 100x when printed at 10 cm.
