Poland Wroclaw (former German Breslau): city skyline with church tower and roof of St. Elizabeth Church; seen from roof terrace of Monopol Hotel; The Elizabeth Church (German: Elisabethkirche; Polish: Bazylika sw. Ezlbiety) was built first 1257 on the relics of two former churches. In starting 14th century; a new basilica in Gothic style was built. From 1525 to 1945; the catholic church became a Lutheran protestant one. In 1946; it became Roman catholic again. Lightnings and fire destroyed the church in 1962; 1975 and 1976. It was reconsecrated by Pope John Paul II; in 1997.
