- The Castel Sant'Angelo (Castle of the Holy Angel; Chateau Saint-Ange; Die Engelsburg ) is a towering cylindrical building in Rome.Construction: 123-139 AD; commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family.
