CHALICE MADE OF GILT COPPER; COLOURED ENAMEL AND PARTIALLY GILT SILVER.

Last quarter of the 14th century.
Gilt copper; colored enamel; partially gilt silver.
Wide twelve-foil foot with profiled frame; engraved decoration on the upper side
reminiscent of a finial. Six-foil rising from the middle and merging into the
correspondingly shaped foot via a profiled middle section. Foot decorated with geometric
patterns in red and black enamel in champlev?technique. On the sturdy nodus with leaf
relief; circumferential sixround silver rotuly with depictions of the Virgin Mary; Ecce
homo; John Evangelista; Archangel Gabriel; St. Paul and a cardinal's coat of arms. The
small domed basket with ornamental engravings in round medallions; upwards ending in
smaller and larger pikes.
Measurement: Height 19;5cm.
Mark: Bowl with Dutch tax mark for foreign works (Tardy p.322).
Kuppa later addition.
