Ivory; in parts carved ?jour and coloured. Pierced iron framing; glassed.
Octagonal shape. The flagellated Christ falling; grasping his purple coat. Depiction of
calvary with many figures. In the center Christ on the cross; below Mary; Mary Magdalene
and John.
Measurement: 8;5x8cm.
Provenance:
Private collection southern Germany.
Similar carvings; mostly in the form of prayer nuts; can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum in New York; Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Bargello in Florence.
