Claudia Di Giovanni director of the Vatican's film library. She is responsible for the 8;000 films which she sometimes shows for the members of the Curia in a former chapel that was made into a movie theater. 'The oldest footage we have is from 1896. It shows Pope Leo XIII in the Vatican Gardens. It's the first recorded image of a Pope on film. We also have one of the few original copies of Ben-Hur.' The Vatican's Film Library also stores recent films and other Church related material; donated by television networks. Even famous film directors have offered copies of some of their best work.- The Vatican is the planet's smallest State. Some 2;000 employees cross over the Santa Anna gate each morning at around 7 am; the gateway guarded both by the Swiss Guards and the vigilenzia (Vatican police force). Not all of them work at the Vatican by vocation; but many admit that a deep personal connection to the Pope has motivated their choice of work. Vatican; 2015.
