TWO CHAWAN IN KOREAN STYLE.
Japan or Korea the Japanese market. Edo period. 17th/18th c. or later. a) Goshomaru chawan from ferrous; dark red brown stoneware with grey whitish glaze; finely
crazed. The steep wall in the upper part a bit deformed and with grooves from turning
below the offset lip. The lower part faceted. The glaze with strong pink Amamori spots.
Crack with old gold lacquer repair. H.7.2cm; ?12.2cm. Wooden box with inscription inside
the lid: Totoan (Kuroda Ryoji). Purple silk bag. b) Ichimonji chawan on high flared and
cut (warikodai) foot. At the body a slice of the lip from the lower bowl of the stack when
fired. H.9cm; ?13.6cm. Unsigned wooden box. Condition A/B.
