Giuseppe Mondini; harpsichord; cypress; ivory; horn; wood; total: length: 2682 mm; width: 835 mm; height: 213 mm; weight: 30;1 kg (only the instrument); inscribed: on the c3 key: JOSEPH MONDINI IMOLEN. 1701; Keyboard instruments; Ornaments; Flower ornaments; Baroque; This impressive instrument is the longest surviving single-manual harpsichord. Slender and elongated; of great elegance; with a sweeping base and lavish decoration of the case with gilded tendrils; this harpsichord - commissioned by a high church dignitary - is an important work of art of the Italian High Baroque. In typical Italian harpsichord construction; the instrument; which is located in the outer protective case; is very light and thin-walled for sound reasons - its side walls are only 5 millimeters thick.
