Inkstand; Pen Tray; Pen Holder; 1840-60 carved by William Gibbs Rogers. This ink stand was carved by William Gibbs Rogers (1792-1875) for the Great Exhibition of 1851. He has used lime wood; which is soft and easy to carve. Rogers was one of the most prominent wood carvers in Victorian England. His work can be seen in a number of churches and public buildings including St. Paul's Cathedral and the House of Lords.
