Tuscany; Archeological area of Roselle: wall of the amphitheatre; built 1st century AD in technique of opus reticulata; with red marked line of restaurations in the 1960s; showing original wall below red line and reconstruction works above red line; The Roman amphitheatre was built in technique of Opus reticulata; on the Northern hill side of Roselle. Roselle (Etruscan name: "Rusel"; Roman name: "Rusellae") was founded in 7th century BC on a ridge with two major hills. In 294 BC; Romans conquered the prosperous Etruscan city. Until 12th century AD; Roselle was a Bishop seat. it was finally left; in 1138. The archeological area of Roselle (Area arecheologica di Roselle) shows ancient villas; temples and the monumental city wall; as well the amphithatre and Etruscan and Roman buildings.
