Tuscany; Archeological area of Roselle: general view from Roman villa "Domus dei Mosaici" (House of Mosaics) on Southern hill side; Roman villa "Domus dei Mosaici" was built in late Republican times (90 BC to 80 BC) and extended in in Imperial Roman times (1st and 2nd century AD); also with small thermal baths. It has huge mosaics in technique of opus sectile. In 4th century AD; all changed and a blacksmith worked here. Roselle (Etruscan name: "Rusel"; Roman name: "Rusellae") was founded in 7th century BC on a ridge with two major hills. In 294 BC; Romans conquered the prosperous Etruscan city. Until 12th century AD; Roselle was a Bishop seat. it was finally left; in 1138. The archeological area of Roselle (Area arecheologica di Roselle) shows ancient villas; temples and the monumental city wall; as well the amphithatre and Etruscan and Roman buildings.
