Poland; Krak體; city district Kazimierz; Remah Synagogue (Polish: Synagoga Remu): memorial plaque for the Jewish victims of Holocaust 1939 - 1945 in the courtyard; Remah Synagogue is the smallest historic Jewish temple in city district Kazimierz; where Jewish people from Krak體 were moved in; in 1495. The synagogue was built 1553 until 1557 according to popular tradition by Israel ben Josef; grandson of Moshe Auerbach of German city of Regensburg; in honor of his son Moshe Isserles (ca 1525 - 1572); better known as famous Rabbi Moses Isserles; in late Renaissance style. The name of the synagoge is the Hebrew acronym ReMA (pronounced "ReMU") of his name. In 1557; a fire destroyed the new synagogue which was immediately rebuilt; by architect Stanislaw Baranek. Restauration works took place 1829; 1933; and 1957. During the Holocaust; the synagogue was occupied by German Trust office (Treuhandstelle) and served as storehouse for firefighting equipment. Historic furbishing; ceremonial objects and the bimah were stolen. In the courtyard of the synagogue; today memorial plaques remember victims of the Holocaust and the Holocaust itself.
