Shanghai; Hongkou District; Liyang Road Villas; Smart Museum: former site of Lu Xun磗 Library; stone plate with inscription; The inscription (Chinese and English) reads: "Former Site of Lu Xun磗 Library. From March 1933 to 1936; Lu Xun set up a library on the second floor here; where Qu Qiubai磗 manuscripts and Ronshi磗 library were kept." Lu Xun (1881-1936) was a pioneer of modern Chinese literature. Qu Qiubai was a leader of the Communist Party in the late 1920s. Ronshi (1902 - 1931) was a writer; translator of Maxim Gorki; member of the League of Left-Wing Writers and the Communist Party in 1930. He was executed by Kuomintang government in Shanghai prison in 1931. Liyang Road Villas are attached garden villas situated on both sides of Liyang Road; built in 1914.
