Shanghai; Hongkou District; Liyang Road Villas: memorial site with mural stone plaque and portrait of Nei Shan Wan Zao; Chinese name of Japanese book trader Uchiyama Kanzo (1885 - 1959); Uchiyama Kanzo was a Japanese Christian and proprietor of the Uchiyama Bookstore in Shanghai; in 1917 on North Sichuan Road; and then in the International Settlement in Hongkou; frequented by Chinese and Japanese intellectuals before World War II; for example Lu Xun; Guo Moruo; Jun'ichiro Tanizaki; Sato Haruo and Hayashi Fumiko; Tian Han; Chen Duxiu. By 1932 he had become the main publisher of Lu Xun's works. In 1945 he went back to Japan and became first president of the Japan-China Friendship Association.The portrait at Liyang Road is part of the Model Area; the memorial place for revolutionary culture of 1920s to 1940s; writers; unionists; workers; soldiers and politicians; and heroes of the Communist Party of China. Model Area was restored; in 2004. Liyang Road Villas; garden villas; were built 1914.
