Rio de Janeiro: Urca beach and historic building; former Cassino da Urca; in the background top of Sugarloaf Mountain with cable car station; Here; in 1920s a Beach Hotel was built. In 1933 it became into a luxurious casino (cassino) with international night life and samba shows. Star singer and dancer Carmen Miranda; Josephine Baker; Walt Disney; or Orson Welles frequented the Cassino da Urca; closed in 1946. The building was bought by a TV Channel; abandoned in the 1980s; renovated and reopened in 2014; and is site of the Istituto Europeo di Design (European Institute for Design; IED). In 1913; the construction of the "bondinho" cable car to Sugarloaf Mountain (395 m) started.
