Shanghai; Hongkou District; Duolun Road: detail of statue of Sun Yat-sen (1866 - 1925) in a garden area; Sun Yat-sen was provisional first president of the Republic of China and first leader of the Kuomintang (Nationalist Party of China); known as "Father of the Nation" in the Republic of China; and as "Forerunner of the Revolution" in the People's Republic of China for his instrumental role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty during the Xinhai Revolution. Duolun Road (former Darroch Road) is a historic residential street in Hongkou District; the International Settlement. In the early 20th century writers as Lu Xun; Guo Moruo; Mao Dun; Ye Shengtao; and Wang Zaoshi; as well as members of the influential League of Left-Wing Writers including Ding Ling; Sha Ding and Qu Qiubai and political and military leaders H. H. Kung; Bai Chongxi; Tang Enbo and Chen Yi lived here and in the area around. In 1998 historic buildings were restored; sculptures added; and Duolun Road became a pedestrian street.
