Shanghai; Hongkou District; Smart Museum: stone plaque with inscription at historic garden house; set up c. 1930 in Southeast Asian veranda style; former Dormitory of the Arts University of China; at Duolun Road; The inscription (Chinese; English) reads: "The garden house is in the Southeast Asian veranda style. Around 1930; the Arts University of Shanghai set up its dormitory here". Duolun Road (former Darroch Road) is a historic residential street in Hongkou District; the International Settlement. In the early 20th century writers as Lu Xun; Guo Moruo; Mao Dun; Ye Shengtao; and Wang Zaoshi; as well as members of the influential League of Left-Wing Writers including Ding Ling; Sha Ding and Qu Qiubai and political and military leaders H. H. Kung; Bai Chongxi; Tang Enbo and Chen Yi lived here and in the area around. In 1998 historic buildings were restored; sculptures added; and Duolun Road became a pedestrian street.
