Algarve; city of Faro: detail of "Arco da Vila" (City Gate Arch); landmark of Faro; The city gate arch was built starting of 19th century by order of bishop Dom Francisco Gomes de Avelar (1739-1816) on a medieval entrance portal: The design was by Italian architect Francisco Xavier Fabri. It was restored 1992 by the city government with funds of EU (European Union).
