Face of a 12 year old Hispanic girl with atopic and seborrhoeic dermatitis and angular cheilitis. Atopic dermatitis, also called atopic eczema, is an inflammatory skin reaction that occurs without any obvious external cause. Seborrhoeic dermatitis is an inflammatory disorder where the skin becomes flaky, itchy and red. It occurs especially in areas rich in oil-producing sebaceous glands, such as the scalp and around the nose. It can be triggered by fungal infection, stress, as well as hormonal, genetic, and immune system factors. Angular cheilitis, also known as angular stomatitis, is an inflammatory lesion at the labial commissure, or corner of the mouth. The condition manifests as deep cracks or splits. In severe cases, the splits can bleed when the mouth is opened and shallow ulcers or a crust may form.
