Scotland; city of Aberdeen: 12 m long Brig o`Balgownie (originally Bridge of Don); built late 13th century until 1320; rebuilt 1605; The Brig o`Balgownie is Gothic single arch bridge made of sandstone and granite. The highest point of the arch is 17 m above water-line of the river Don. The design of the bridge was most probably by Richard Cementarius; known also as Richard the Mason; a 13th century Scottish architect who became first provost of Aberdeen; in 1272. Most probably; the stone bridge was initiated by Bishop Henry Cheyne; end of 13th century; and finished under King Robert I (Robert the Bruce); in 1320.
