SMALL SILVER VERMEIL TANKARD.
Leipzig. 1650/52. Andreas Kauxdorf the Elder.

Silver; gilt. On domed base with flared rim cylindrical body. On it two rows each of eight beaten bumps. Between them chased and engraved auricular ornamentation. The lid with flattened top decorated accordingly and with forked thumblift. Inside the lid splendidly engraved owner's monogram 'CN'; bottomside 'S.M.V.S.'. Ca. 372g. Height 12.5cm.

Marked on bottom: assayer's mark Leipzig (Rosenberg no.2995); letter for year A for 1650/52 (ibid. no.3013); maker's mark Andreas Kauxdorf the Elder. (active 1618-1669; ibid. no.3038). Condition B/C.
