PORCELAIN CRINOLINE GROUP 'DIE VERLOBUNG' ('THE ENGAGEMENT')
Meissen. Ca. 1750/60. Model by Johann Joachim Kaendler; 1747.

Porcelain; enriched in colours and gold. On an oval base with applied flowers a cavalier is confessing his love to his lady in a crinoline dress with Indian flowers; scene accompanied by two cupids. Height 18 cm.
Without visible marks. Condition C.

In his work documentation dated February 1747 Kaendler mentions the group: "Ein Neues
grouppgen von 4. F黦uren Woran Hymen; Cupido; nebst 2. Verliebten Personen befindl. im
Modell zer schnitten und Selbiges geh鰎iger ma遝n zum ausformen bef鰎dert" ("A model of a new group of four figures where Hymen; Cupid and 2 lovers exists and is ready to be moulded" [translation]) (Pietsch 2002; p.117).
